Thermal imaging has been used since the 1970s to help determine if your facility needs a total roof replacement or if your facility roof can be repaired in the damaged areas.

Sometimes viewing from a higher roof can be utlised. A mast or uav drone can be used to elevate or fly a thermal camera above the roofat the right time and in the correct conditions. Our team at west roofing systems perform many many thermal roof surveys for our customers. These areas are shown in a rainbow spectrum or grayscale spectrum.

In order to be effective the roofing system must contain either an insulating deck or insulation sandwiched between the roof deck and the waterproofing membrane. On a rainbow spectrum white is considered to be hottest then red. Printed digital and or conventional photographs of the roof straight down and site beauty shots of the building and property can be printed. Thermal imaging detects heat held by moisture in the roofing system thereby creating a difference in the radiant heat loss after heat gain stops which allows for the detection of potential moisture.

This moisture takes longer to cool than the rest of the roof system and can be seen with the infrared imager. Yellow tends to be the ambient temperature of the roof surface. Roof infrared basics infrared ir imagery is often a grayscale picture whose scales or shades of gray represent the differences in temperature and emissivity of objects in the image. When looking at a thermal image the warm spots indicate where saturated areas are holding heat compared to the rest of the roof.

Infrared thermal imaging gives us the ability to see the heat radiating off of objects. Roofing professionals scan the roof taking images to compile into a composite map or they take an aerial image of the whole roof. As thermal imaging is a non contact method inaccessible or unsafe roofs can be inspected by a thermographic scan from a distance. They are an integral part of delivering the best quality roof at a fair price.

Thermal imaging cameras can create detailed maps of commercial low slope roofs showing where excess moisture is trapped where the source of a leak may be or where there is soaked or compromised insulation. We may be able to save you a considerable amount of money and extend the life of your roof. As a general rule objects in the image that are lighter in color are warmer and darker objects are cooler. Printed infrared thermographs of each roof section can be captured and printed in high resolution.
